Mission in Action
When a school offers a mission that includes terms like “rigor,” relevance,” and “relationships,” it can be a challenge to find ways to make them meaningful to students. CICS Northtown Academy brings our mission to life every fall with a week-long series of activities and competitions called “Mission Week.” In an annual event called Science Olympics, teams of 10-12 students chosen randomly come together to tackle a series of three scientific challenges. Each team adopts the identity of a world nation. After creating their country flag and learning some quick facts, each country team rotates from three locations around school to try their best in each scientific project. Mission Week closes with the entire student body gathered in the gym to watch divisions clash in the College Trivia Bowl, a competition of college knowledge. Whether giving back to the community by giving donations to Deborah’s Place, competing in the School Spirit Banner competition, participating in the Science Olympics, or the College Bowl, Northtown Academy can proudly say: Mission Accomplished!
