Library Media Center

The CICS Northtown Academy Campus Library offers students a peaceful place to complete their writing and research. Daily homework, preparing for exams, and college planning all take place in the Library. All students are encouraged to utilize the facility’s resources and staff.

Hours

The Library is open throughout the school day. The Library is also open before and after school, typically for 45 minutes before the first bell rings and for one-half hour after school. Students do not need a pass to visit the Library before and after school. If a student would like to visit the Library during their study hall, they must get a written pass from the librarian before school only. The Library is always supervised by the librarian, who is available to assist students with their research and writing projects.

In House Resources

The Library houses nearly 19,000 books on all topics of interest to students, as well as many books to read for fun. Books are available for students and teachers to borrow for a period of three weeks. Fines are issued if a student holds a book longer than three weeks without renewing it. Students do not need a Chicago Public Library card to borrow books from the library. The Library also contains twenty-four computers, with Internet access, and a central printer. The PC-friendly computers are outfitted with Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Work, Excel and PowerPoint. Students may use the computers on a first-come, first-served basis. The computers may be used for schoolwork only. Copies can be made using the Library copier, at a cost of 10 cents per copy.

Donations

The Library is always looking to expand its collection through donations. If you are trying to clear bookshelves at home and have good-quality, used books that may be of interest to high school students, please let us know.
