Mrs. Cheryl Kalkirtz has been an educator for 18 years. She grew up on the Northwest side of Chicago, was a former CPS student, and eventually became a teacher for Chicago Public Schools and the suburbs. Mrs. Kalkirtz still resides in the city with her family. She has been married for 17 years and has a daughter who is beginning high school, and a son who is entering junior high. She has also been an active special education family advocate for 15 years.

Mrs. Kalkirtz earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University with a triple major in Special Education and a minor in English. She received her Master of Education degree from DePaul University, where she continues to pursue her Doctorate of Education in Curriculum Studies. Ms. Kalkirtz holds elementary and secondary teaching certificates with additional endorsements in ESL, core academics, and Title I Reading. She also holds an administrative certificate, with board exams passed for Director of Special Education and for Superintendent.

Before going into district level administration, Mrs. Kalkirtz was a special education teacher for elementary and high school students for 15 years. At the district level, she served as a Director for Student Services and as an Assistant Superintendent before coming on board with Civitas and Northtown Academy. Mrs. Kalkirtz looks forward to collaborating with Chicago Public Schools, CICS, Civitas, Northtown and the neighborhood communities, as she enthusiastically takes on the responsibilities of the new Director for Northtown Academy.

Mr. Andrew Reuland

Mr. Andrew Reuland is currently working on his doctorate in school administration at Loyola University Chicago. He holds a Bachelor degree in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, a Masters in Education from Northwestern University, and a Masters in Instructional Leadership from Loyola University Chicago. Prior to working in administration, Mr. Reuland taught mathematics for 10 years in the Chicago area. He has taught classes at St. Rita High School, The Chicago Academy for the Arts, Fenwick High School, Triton College and Northwestern University. He has taught advanced placement courses for seven years and was selected twice to be a reader for the AP exams. His work in graduate school has focused on teaching methods, teacher supervision, and improving assessments. After three years as a St. Rita Mustang and four years as a Fenwick Friar, Mr. Reuland is very excited to call himself a Puma and work with all the people who invest their time and talent into CICS Northtown Academy.
