Parent Checklist

The following is a parent checklist for the college-bound student:

If you have a …

9th-grader

  • Make sure high school starts on the right foot. Help your student get organized with homework assignments and projects. All grades matter!
  • Take a tour at a nearby college to get familiar with language and terms. Bring your student for early exposure to the ultimate goal.

10th-grader

  • Talk to your student about careers they may find interesting. Help them meet people in those jobs and learn about education and requirements.
  • Make sure your student is involved in activities in and outside of school. Volunteering is great to have on college applications.

11th-grader

  • Are you helping your student research college scholarships?
  • Help your student keep college options open: Plan summer vacations around visits to colleges on your student’s list.

12th-grader

  • It’s October: Has your student completed an application yet? Don’t put it off!
  • Make sure your student visits every college on his/her list.
  • Get your financial records ready to complete the FAFSA in January/February.
