State Seal of Biliteracy Assessment for Seniors

Posted on: February 1, 2026

The State Seal of Biliteracy assessment in Illinois is an important recognition of students’ proficiency in English and one or more additional languages. It encourages and honors Seniors who have studied and achieved competency in multiple languages, highlighting the value of bilingualism in an increasingly global society.

Earning the State Seal of Biliteracy demonstrates that a student has met rigorous standards in language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. For students in Illinois who successfully complete the assessment, this achievement is reflected directly on their academic record — either as a Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma or as a commendation on their transcript or diploma. This distinction not only celebrates students’ linguistic abilities but also can enhance post-secondary opportunities, cultural awareness, and future career prospects.

At Northtown, 157 Seniors are signed up to take the Seal of Biliteracy assessment.  More information will be shared directly with registered students and families.  Join us at the February 12th PAC/BAC meeting for information from Ms. Glaser and to ask questions.
